Dear Webelos Scout Leaders and Parents,

I hope this finds you, your Webelos Scout, and your family safe and doing well.  We know many of you were able to take part in the Council survey that was sent out a few weeks ago.  Thank you again for your heartfelt and honest answers.  As a result of that survey, we understand why many of you are concerned about sending your Scout to camp this summer.  We heard you, and we listened.

It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that Webelos Camp 2020 has been cancelled for this summer.  We take the safety and well being of our Webelos, parents, leaders, and staff very seriously and will continue to do so as long as we run summer camp programs. Our Webelos Scouts are the future of Scouting, and although camp is cancelled, Scouting still remains alive and well.

I want to encourage you and your Webelos to stay safe, but keep on Scouting this summer.  Webelos are unique because they are slowly bridging from Cub Scouts to Scouts BSA.  They have more rank requirements than the Cub Scouts, and the way that the Webelos advance in rank differs also.  "The Webelos den leader signs for approval of all requirements unless the den leader delegates this responsibility."(Guide to Advancement  So this summer it is vital that your Webelos Scout stays in communication with the Webelos den leader while continuing to work on rank requirements and electives.  This process allows the Webelos to start having someone other than a parent sign off requirements just like Scouts BSA.

With Alabama opening up more and more, it should be easier to go camping again in small family groups or meet with small groups of others as long as social distancing takes place. Webelos stands for "We Be Loyal Scouts!"  Now more than ever we need to encourage our Webelos Scouts to be loyal to Scouting.  Once you start something stay faithful to it, serving, and protecting it for the generations that come after us.

The Webelos Camp staff has already started to make plans for 2021.  We will have Summer Games next year, which is our version of the Olympic Games.  As we look to the future, we are excited about offering you a quality Webelos Camp program in 2021.  Mark your calendars now for next summer.  Dates are TBD.  Start your training now!  Let's keep the flame burning as we continue Scouting through 2020 and remain hopeful in the days to come.

Yours in Scouting,

Susanne McGaughey
