The BSA is putting Scouting on the map all across the nation!
As part of the BeAScout initiative, the Boy Scouts of America will have it's
own joining Web page with information on Scouting, plus an actual Google map application
that will help potential Scouts and their parents find packs, troops, and crews in their communities.

National Jamboree 2013 is fast approaching! The National Jamboree to be held July 15-24 2013, will be held at its' new permanent location, Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve. Loocated near New River Gorge, West Virginia, this newest BSA High Adventure Base is the perfect place to kickoff Scoutings" next century! Get more information here! Hiking Trails open at Camps! Work was recently completed on two hiking trails at Camp Tuk and at Camp Hobbs. Now hikers have a choice of the 5 Mile First Class Trail at Camp Tukabatchess or the shorter 2.4 mile trail at Camp Hobbs! Download a map and written directions here. |

The Council is implementing a new policy for the use of credit and debit cards to pay fees etc. Please note that this policy applies only to credit/debit card transactions with the Council Office not the Scout Store. Read the new policy here. |

Wilderness First Aid Course, Feb 4 -5 2012! The Wilderness First Aid Course provides the basic knowledge and skills to enable participants to make decisions about emergency care in wilderness settings, including patient protection, protection of other members of the party, care of injuries for extended periods of time while waiting for rescuers, and simple evacuation techniques. The BSA Tour Plan is new-
The new Tour Plan produced by BSA takes the place of the old "Tour Permit" used by BSA and this council for many years. The Tukabatchee Area Council will fully implement the new Tour Plan and procedures effective January 3, 2012. Additional information regarding the new Tour Plan can be found at Scouting.org.

Shooting Sports Classes to be held!! On January 28, we will be holding the Basic Range Safety Officer Certification Course at the Camp Tukabatchee Administration Building from 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM. Cost is $85.00 and preregistration is required. Get more information and registration instructions here! On March 24, we'll be holding the Basic Pistol Shooting Course for Ladies only, from 9:00AM until 5:00PM. The course will be held at Camp Tukabateche, in the Administration building. Cost is $125 and preregistration is required. Get more information and registration instructions here! Both courses will be taught by NRA certified instructors and will result in NRA certification. |

Debate Tournament Judges Needed! On January 26 - 28, 2012, Catalyst Speech and Debate club will again be hosting a Region 7 qualifying tournament on behalf of the NCFCA at Taylor Road Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL. We would be honored to have you come this year to help our students learn to communicate effectively through Speech and Debate. You can pick a single time slot to judge, or multiple slots as your schedule allows. Each round will take about 3 hours of your time. This will include a brief orientation about the events, the round itself, and time to complete your evaluations. Snacks and/or a light meal will be provided. No experience is necessary! Judges must be 18 years or older and out of high school to judge. Community service hours certificates are available. ! Our national organization has developed a new website! To register to judge, click here. Once you are there, click on the word "Judges" on the red banner at the top of the page. Next, click on Region 7 (including Alabama) on the map. Select the Capital City Classic and follow the directions to register. You will need to select the Judge type - "Community Judge" to see the available times. |

Cub Scout Leader Pow Wow!! Pow Wow 2012 in the Tukabatchee Area Council will be held Saturday, March 3, at St. James United Methodist Church. Registration will begin at 7:45. Closing ceremonies will begin about 3:20 pm. If you would like to teach a class that day, please email Kathy Smith with the class you would like to teach and what time you would like your class to begin. If you would like to teach a class, but are not sure what you might want to teach- email me and I can make some suggestions. Our Pow Wow directors will be introduced at the Cub Scout Summer Program Preview on Thu, Jan. 19, 2012. Come that night and learn more about our great event. Many Thanks to the leaders in Pack and Troop 8 for helping spearhead this event. Attendance at Pow Wow will satisfy the annual training requirement for a Cub Scout Leaders' training knot. |
